ALDH1A1
Overview
ALDH1A1 (aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member A1) is a widely used marker of cancer stem-like cells (CSCs). Its expression is associated with EMT, tumor initiating capacity, and poor prognosis in multiple cancer types.
Alterations observed in the corpus
- EMT/stemness marker upregulated in GBC cells (GBC-SD, NOZ) in response to paracrine SEMA7A from stiff-matrix-activated cancer-associated fibroblasts; downregulated by SEMA7A knockdown in co-injection xenografts PMID:24997986
- Stemness marker derepressed upon ARID1A loss in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma; ARID1A represses ALDH1A1 transcription by recruiting HDAC1 and reducing H3K27 acetylation at its promoter PMID:25526346

- GBC: ALDH1A1 upregulation downstream of SEMA7A/ITGB1/AKT1/EP300 signaling axis reflects acquisition of stem-like traits in GBC cells exposed to CAF-conditioned medium PMID:24997986
