APOB

Overview

APOB encodes apolipoprotein B, the primary apolipoprotein of LDL and chylomicrons, produced in the liver. Somatic mutations in APOB are observed in HCC, likely as a passenger event reflecting the hepatocyte origin of these tumors.

Alterations observed in the corpus

  • Somatic mutation reported in the HCC molecular landscape (WES, n=1,289 patients); classified as a non-actionable alteration in the comprehensive review of HCC molecular therapies PMID:24798001
  • Recurrently mutated hepatocyte-secreted protein gene in HCC; part of a newly highlighted hepatic-differentiation pathway altered in 34% of 243 HCC tumors PMID:25822088
