MUC1
Overview
MUC1 (Mucin 1) is a transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the mucin family that is aberrantly overexpressed and focally amplified in multiple cancer types. Abnormal MUC1 expression disrupts epithelial barrier function and activates oncogenic signaling pathways, making it a candidate therapeutic target and diagnostic biomarker.
Alterations observed in the corpus
- Focal amplification identified in TCC bladder cancer in the UCGC Chinese cohort (n=99) by whole-exome and whole-genome sequencing PMID:24121792
- Low-penetrance GWAS susceptibility locus for gastric cancer; individually small risk increment but clustering in a single family may partly explain familial gastric cancer aggregation PMID:24816255
- Targeted by allogeneic MUC1-C CAR-T (P-MUC1C-ALLO1) in advanced solid tumors including NPC PMID:24952746
Cancer types (linked)
- BLCA — focal amplification in transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) PMID:24121792
Co-occurrence and mutual exclusivity
- No co-occurrence or mutual exclusivity data currently in corpus.
Therapeutic relevance
- No direct therapeutic data currently in corpus.
Open questions
- Functional significance and therapeutic actionability of MUC1 focal amplification in TCC remain to be established.
