NDUFS1

Overview

NDUFS1 (NADH:Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase Core Subunit S1) encodes the largest subunit of mitochondrial Complex I (NADH dehydrogenase), the entry point of the electron transport chain. In cancer genomics, it is implicated in tumors with altered mitochondrial metabolism, particularly those exhibiting compensatory mitochondrial biogenesis responses.

Alterations observed in the corpus

  • Elevated mRNA expression among 43 mitochondrial-GO genes in MT-ND5-mutated chromophobe RCC cases, consistent with compensatory mitochondrial biogenesis PMID:25155756

Cancer types (linked)

  • ChRCC: upregulated in cases with somatic MT-ND5 mtDNA mutations; part of broader mitochondrial biogenesis response PMID:25155756
