PAIP1
Overview
PAIP1 (poly(A) binding protein interacting protein 1) is a translation initiation factor that interacts with PABP (poly(A)-binding protein) to stimulate cap-dependent mRNA translation. It has been identified as a significantly mutated gene (SMG) in muscle-invasive bladder carcinoma through large-scale genomic analysis.
Alterations observed in the corpus
- Identified as a significantly mutated gene (SMG) at ≤8% frequency in muscle-invasive bladder carcinoma PMID:24476821
Cancer types (linked)
- BLCA (Bladder Urothelial Carcinoma): Recurrently mutated in muscle-invasive disease; functional significance in bladder cancer not yet established PMID:24476821
Co-occurrence and mutual exclusivity
- No specific co-occurrence or mutual exclusivity patterns established.
Therapeutic relevance
- No targeted therapy established for PAIP1 mutations.
Open questions
- The functional role of PAIP1 mutations in bladder cancer pathogenesis and whether they represent driver or passenger events remains unclear.
