PPARGC1A
Overview
PPARGC1A (PPARG Coactivator 1 Alpha; also PGC-1α) encodes a master transcriptional coactivator of mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative metabolism. In cancer genomics, elevated PPARGC1A expression marks tumors with a non-Warburg, oxidative metabolic phenotype, particularly chromophobe renal cell carcinoma.
Alterations observed in the corpus
- Significantly elevated mRNA in chromophobe RCC vs normal kidney (p<1E-5), consistent with increased mitochondrial biogenesis and the non-Warburg metabolic phenotype that distinguishes ChRCC from ccRCC PMID:25155756
Cancer types (linked)
- ChRCC: overexpressed; marker of increased mitochondrial biogenesis; distinguishes ChRCC from ccRCC at the metabolic level PMID:25155756
