SBNO2
Overview
SBNO2 (Strawberry Notch Homolog 2) is a transcriptional regulator. A novel MIDN-SBNO2 fusion (chr19p13.3 inversion) was identified in a TFE3-fusion-negative translocation renal cell carcinoma, driving high SBNO2 expression and implicating it in the MiTF-family pathway.
Alterations observed in the corpus
- MIDN-SBNO2 fusion (novel chr19p13.3 inversion) identified in a TFE3-fusion-negative translocation renal cell carcinoma (tRCC, sample 14336T); drives high SBNO2 expression; hypothesized to modulate MiTF family members PMID:25401301
Cancer types (linked)
- tRCC (translocation renal cell carcinoma) — MIDN-SBNO2 fusion as an alternative MiTF-pathway alteration in TFE3-fusion-negative cases PMID:25401301
Co-occurrence and mutual exclusivity
- Found in TFE3-fusion-negative, amplification-negative tRCC; functionally grouped with MiTF-high subtype tumors PMID:25401301
Therapeutic relevance
- Part of the MiTF-high subtype; BIRC7 inhibitors are proposed as a candidate therapy for MiTF-high tumors, though SBNO2-specific targeting is not established PMID:25401301
Open questions
- Whether SBNO2 directly modulates TFE3 or other MiTF family members is hypothesized but not demonstrated PMID:25401301
