SCN9A
Overview
SCN9A (Sodium Voltage-Gated Channel Alpha Subunit 9) encodes a voltage-gated sodium channel involved in pain signaling. Gain-of-function mutations cause primary erythermalgia; loss-of-function causes congenital insensitivity to pain. It has been identified in the HNSCC TCGA cohort as a gene with at least one identical previously COSMIC-reported mutation.
