Illumina EPIC methylation array

Overview

The Illumina Infinium MethylationEPIC BeadChip (EPIC/850K array) measures DNA methylation at ~850,000 CpG sites genome-wide, covering enhancers, promoters, and gene bodies. It is the successor to the Illumina 450k array PMID:34433969.

Used by

  • PMID:34433969 — Illumina EPIC methylation array used to profile 121 fresh-frozen meningiomas from the University Health Network Brain Tumor BioBank; six DNA methylation clusters were derived and integrated via COCA with CNA and mRNA clusters to define four stable molecular groups (MG1–MG4) for meningioma classification PMID:34433969.
  • Illumina EPIC array applied to breast cancer specimens in AURORA cohort; identified HLA-A promoter DNA hypermethylation in 23 tumors (12 individuals), more frequent in metastases than primaries (P=0.035), correlating with reduced immune signatures PMID:36585450
  • Used Infinium MethylationEPIC v2.0 array for genome-wide DNA methylation profiling in a EWSR1::BEND2 fusion sarcoma; profile interpreted with the sarcoma and brain-tumor methylation classifiers PMID:28199314

Notes

  • EPIC array data was one of three molecular layers integrated by COCA alongside WES and mRNA-seq in the meningioma classification study PMID:34433969.
  • Corpus-grown slug; not present in canonical ontology.
