Testicular Germ Cell Tumor / TGCT (TCGA)
Overview
TGCT is the TCGA cohort identifier for testicular germ cell tumor. Note: in OncoTree, TGCT refers to “Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor, Diffuse Type” — the TCGA TGCT cohort represents testicular GCTs, which in OncoTree are better mapped under MGCT (Mixed Germ Cell Tumor) or subtypes such as seminoma (SEM) and non-seminomatous GCT (NSGCT). This page covers findings from the TCGA TGCT (testicular) cohort.
Cohorts in the corpus
- TCGA TGCT cohort (testicular germ cell tumors): included as one of 33 cancer types in the pan-cancer fusion landscape study and the pan-cancer aneuploidy study.
Recurrent alterations
- Pan-cancer aneuploidy study found TGCT has the highest mean aneuploidy score of all 33 cancer types (99% of samples with any arm event, mean score 18.7); TGCT is characterized by near-universal whole-genome doubling and chromosomal instability PMID:29622463.
- Pan-cancer fusion study (9,624 TCGA samples) found TGCT has a median of 0 fusions per sample, despite very high chromosomal instability, suggesting structural rearrangements are predominantly copy-number events rather than gene fusions PMID:29617662.
Subtypes
- Seminoma: characterized by isochromosome 12p (i12p) and low mutation burden.
- Non-seminomatous GCT (NSGCT): embryonal carcinoma, yolk sac tumor, teratoma, choriocarcinoma.
Therapeutic landscape
No drug-specific findings for TGCT reported in the current corpus.
