ABCB11

Overview

ABCB11 (ATP-binding cassette sub-family B member 11, also known as BSEP) encodes the bile salt export pump expressed in hepatocytes. In cancer genomics, ABCB11 is notable as a fusion partner in HCC: the ABCB11–LRP2 fusion is the first recurrent gene fusion reported in hepatocellular carcinoma, identified by integrated genomic analysis circa 2014.

Alterations observed in the corpus

  • Recurrent gene fusion ABCB11–LRP2 reported as the first recurrent fusion in HCC, identified by next-generation sequencing; represents a novel structural alteration class in HCC beyond point mutations PMID:24735922
  • Identified as a prognostic marker of the bile-acid-active CCA subtype (bile-salt export pump); implicated in bile acid homeostasis maintenance in cholangiocarcinoma PMID:25608663

Cancer types (linked)

  • HCC: involved as fusion partner (ABCB11–LRP2) in HCC; clinical significance of the fusion beyond its novelty as a structural event is not yet established PMID:24735922

Co-occurrence and mutual exclusivity

  • No co-occurrence or mutual exclusivity data available in this corpus.

Therapeutic relevance

  • No direct therapeutic relevance reported in this corpus.

Open questions

  • Functional consequence and prevalence of the ABCB11–LRP2 fusion across broader HCC cohorts is not yet established PMID:24735922.
