FGF3

Overview

FGF3 (Fibroblast Growth Factor 3) is a member of the FGF family involved in cell proliferation and differentiation. In HCC, FGF3 is co-amplified with FGF4, FGF19, and CCND1 at the 11q13.3 locus, a focal amplification independently associated with poor survival.

Alterations observed in the corpus

  • Co-amplified at 11q13.3 locus with FGF4, FGF19, and CCND1 in ~6% of HCC; focal amplification appears at advanced stages and is independently associated with poor survival PMID:25822088

Cancer types (linked)

  • HCC: 11q13.3 co-amplification (~6% frequency) appears at advanced stages and is independently associated with poor survival in a large HCC cohort PMID:25822088

Co-occurrence and mutual exclusivity

Therapeutic relevance

  • FGF3/4/19 co-amplification nominates FGFR inhibitors as therapeutic candidates in HCC PMID:25822088

Open questions

  • Which component(s) of the 11q13.3 amplicon are the primary oncogenic drivers.
