CUL1

Overview

CUL1 (Cullin 1) is the scaffold protein of the SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F-box) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. Copy number loss of SCF complex genes including CUL1 induces chromosomal instability (CIN) in colorectal cancer.

Alterations observed in the corpus

  • Invariable core member of the SCF E3 ubiquitin ligase complex; copy number loss of SCF genes (SKP1, CUL1, RBX1) induces CIN in CRC PMID:36334560
  • CUL1-BRAF fusion identified in an MSS metastatic colorectal cancer case as an activating BRAF rearrangement; represents one of two BRAF fusion events (alongside AGAP3-BRAF) in a cohort of 1,134 colorectal adenocarcinomas PMID:29316426

Cancer types (linked)

  • CRC: SCF complex gene copy number loss associated with CIN PMID:36334560

Co-occurrence and mutual exclusivity

  • Copy number loss co-occurs with SKP1 and RBX1 loss in CRC PMID:36334560
