IFNG

Overview

IFNG encodes interferon gamma, the defining Th1 cytokine that drives anti-tumor immunity and MHC upregulation.

Alterations observed in the corpus

  • Th1-signaling component of the 20-gene ICR signature used to stratify colon cancer immune subtypes in the AC-ICAM cohort PMID:37202560.
  • Marker of the immune-related ILC mRNA subtype identified in a comprehensive molecular portrait of invasive lobular breast cancer (n=127 ILC TCGA + n=106 LumA ILC) PMID:26451490
  • No significant differential expression between anti-PD-1 responders vs non-responders in whole-tumor transcriptome analysis of pretreatment melanoma biopsies; bulk RNA-seq may dilute immune-cell-specific interferon-gamma signal PMID:26997480

Cancer types (linked)

  • COAD — ICR Th1 component; ICR-high tumors had improved OS (HR 0.54, P=0.0095) PMID:37202560.

Therapeutic relevance

  • Component of the ICR module, which outperformed CMS and MSI classifications for prognosis in primary colon cancer PMID:37202560.
