WDR87
Overview
WDR87 (WD Repeat Domain 87) is a poorly characterised WD-repeat family protein. It was identified as a significantly mutated gene preferentially targeted in African American (AA) colorectal cancers in a whole-exome and targeted sequencing study, suggesting a potential ethnicity-associated role in CRC biology.
Alterations observed in the corpus
- Identified as one of 20 significantly mutated genes preferentially targeted in African American CRCs (n=103 AA, n=129 Caucasian); part of a 15-gene set with significantly higher mutation frequency in AA than Caucasian CRCs PMID:25583493
Cancer types (linked)
- COADREAD — significantly mutated in African American CRCs; part of the 15-gene AA-preferential panel accounting for 41% of AA CRCs vs 15% of Caucasian CRCs PMID:25583493
Co-occurrence and mutual exclusivity
Therapeutic relevance
- No drug targeting reported; biological function in CRC remains to be characterised PMID:25583493
Open questions
- Functional consequences of WDR87 mutations in CRC have not been experimentally validated in this study; mechanism of action unknown PMID:25583493
